When we first launched Paw Print Health, our intolerance test covered 300 different foods and environmental triggers. That was already a lot, from beef and wheat, right through to dust, grass and pollens. But dogs are complicated little creatures, and food companies keep adding new proteins, vegetables and additives into their recipes.
That’s why we’re excited to share that Paw Print Health now screens for 470 potential intolerances. That’s a big jump and here’s why it matters for New Zealand dog owners.
1. Kangaroo meat
Kangaroo is often used in “hypoallergenic” or “novel protein” diets in New Zealand. The idea is that it’s less likely to cause issues. But kangaroo can still be a trigger for some dogs. Our expanded test means you’ll know for sure whether it’s a safe option for your pup.
2. Sweet potato
Many “grain-free” kibbles and treats in NZ swap out rice or wheat for sweet potato. It sounds healthy (and often is), but it can also cause intolerances. Our old panel didn’t pick it up. Now it does.
3. Hidden dairy proteins
Lots of dogs react to milk, but sometimes it’s not the lactose that’s the problem. Casein and lactoferrin — proteins found in milk — are common culprits, and they sneak into a surprising number of foods. These are now included in the new test.
4. Natural preservatives
Ever noticed “with rosemary extract” on your dog’s kibble or treats? It’s often used as a natural preservative. For some dogs, it’s also a trigger. The new 470 test picks this up.
5. Everyday environmental allergens
It’s not just about food. Dogs live in the same world we do, rolling in grass, chasing flies, napping on the couch. Dust mites, midges, house flies, even cockroaches can all cause itchy skin and upset tummies. These environmental triggers are now included too.
What this means for you and your dog
By expanding from 300 to 470 items, Paw Print Health now gives you a more complete picture of what could be upsetting your dog. Instead of switching to a “special” food and hoping for the best, you’ll know exactly what to look out for, whether it’s kangaroo, sweet potato, hidden milk proteins, rosemary, or even dust mites.
That’s one less guessing game, and one step closer to a happy, healthy dog.
With Paw Print’s new 470-item intolerance screen, you get broader coverage, fewer blind spots, and a clearer path to helping your dog live their best life.
